DUTTON HALL-STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING

Dutton Hall, a 45,000 gsf three-story student services center which features a glass entry and a dramatic two-story entry lobby, is a one-stop center for a variety of student services. The structural system consists of braced steel frame on drilled belled caissons, and features a hipped steel wood frame roof to replicate the historic buildings in the area.

INFILL STUDENT HOUSING
University of California, Santa Cruz
Santa Cruz, California
New student apartments: three buildings at Cowell College, four buildings at Stevenson College and seven buildings at Porter College. Project includes computer labs, community rooms, mail and laundry, and building maintenance facilities. The total project includes 640 beds, 228,000 gsf of building area, and 307,000 gsf of site development. All construction is hillside construction and deals with complex site, geologic and foundation issues.

CERRO VISTA APARTMENTS, STUDENT HOUSING I

This Student Apartment Complex includes 800 beds, 29 buildings and 160,000 gsf in two bedroom two bath suites. The three-to-five story buildings are spread out in six interconnected clusters and step up the Poly Canyon hillside. A student Commons building offers a central area for dining and congregating.

San Jose, California
The new Student and Career Service Center is a 2 story, 68,000 sf building which serves as the gateway to the San Jose City College campus. The building houses all student, faculty, staff and visitor services functions including the bookstore and main dining. The structural framing system is a special moment resisting steel frame with a composite concrete floor, supported on a conventional spread footing foundation. The design of the building flows seamlessly from the interior to the exterior to connect with formal and informal gathering spaces.

SCIENCE II REPLACEMENT BUILDING
California State University at Stanislaus
Turlock, California
The new Science II facility is an 115,000gsf multi-story structure consisting of two wings with a central lobby and atrium and a cylindrical tower to support a rooftop observatory. The structural system consists of a structural steel frame with composite concrete and steel floors which incorporate vibration sensitivity criteria plus steel-braced frames strategically located at fixed wall elements. Functions include lecture classrooms, teaching laboratories, graduate research laboratories, computer laboratories, faculty and Dean’s offices, and miscellaneous storage and clerical support.

125,000 gsf of office space in two buildings, interconnected by an atrium with pedestrian bridges. Buildings are situated at the main campus entrance adjacent to a reflecting pool.

LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER
College of the Redwoods
Eureka, California
Nestled in a hillside and surrounded by redwoods, the LRC provides over 39,000 gsf of library stack space, classrooms and meeting rooms. The structure includes a highly articulated steel frame and multi-featured roof. The building is located immediately above the Little Salmon Creek earthquake fault. The structure and its mat foundation have been designed to accommodate significant ground movements in the event of a moderate-to-severe earthquake.

KIRSCH CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES

This two-story, 23,200 gsf Center for Energy innovation is a state-of-the-art LEED certified facility demonstrating the "climate responsive building concept" of integrating passive solar design, building-integrated photovoltaics and other energy efficient measures. The building, houses classroom and lecture spaces, laboratories and group study areas. The lateral force-resisting system features special concentric braced steel frames, exposed as an armature of the architecture.
$6.8M cost of construction

Pleasant Hill, California
A 17,000 gsf, two-story college bookstore with retail and administrative functions. The building features a subgrade loading dock level, extensive daylighting and exposed steel structure integrated with the architecture.

MADERA COMMUNITY COLLEGE, PHASE IA
Administration Building
Madera, California
The Administration Building is the cornerstone of the campus and includes stainless steel roofs, concrete base and walls, and a curving mirrored entry façade to create an inviting entry into the campus. Unusual design conditions included a diagonal longitudinal spline with opposite sloping roof systems on either side of the spline.

The 53,436 gsf facility is the "keystone" building located at the front entrance of the campus. It consists of three stories containing library stacks, reading/study areas, computer support, meeting rooms and a cafe. The structural system is a structural steel braced frame.

J.C.GATEHOUSE HALL
St. Mary's College
Moraga, California
A three-story 55,000 gsf science building incorporating lecture halls, laboratories, offices and classrooms, designed for vibration-sensitive equipment and heavy floor live loads. The project also included retrofit and remodel of an existing 45,000 gsf reinforced concrete building, and the addition of a 15,000 gsf third floor.

PUBLIC POLICY AND APPLIED ETHICS BUILDING
Santa Clara University
Santa Clara, California
A 50,000 sf, three-story steel braced frame and wood infill building for classrooms, faculty offices, conference rooms and a high bay television studio. This structure completes the East entrance promenade, linking Santa Clara's progressive education philosophy with its historical past. The building features an open two-story circular glass lobby atrium.

SAN RAMON VALLEY CENTER

San Ramon, California
This two-story building complex houses classrooms, a library, and administrative offices and is the centerpiece of the new San Ramon campus. Future buildings will include additional classroom buildings, a community center, a senior center, as well as retail spaces. These buildings provide 64,300gsf of space and feature open exterior corridors and steep pitched roofs. The large space enclosed by the pitched roofs creates space to house the mechanical equipment. The buildings’ structural systems consist of a structural steel frame, with concrete fill over composite steel deck floor construction and metal deck without concrete fill for the roofs. The lateral force resisting system features special concentric braced steel frames.
