New Academic Building
San Mateo, California
An award-winning two- and three-story main academic building housing administration, classrooms, science and computer labs, library and cafeteria. The 131,000 gsf building is a braced steel framed structure with a brick veneer over precast panel cladding system intended to replicate the historic character of the original brick High School building.

HORACE MANN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
San Jose, California
A new urban campus in downtown San Jose consisting of two- and three-story steel frame and masonry wall construction. The campus includes administrative facilities, library, auditorium, multi-purpose building, K-6 classroom building and kindergarten. DASSE was presented with an Honor Award in Public Design for this project during the 2004 Concrete Design Awards on behalf of the Concrete Masonry Association of California and Nevada.

EL CERRITO HIGH SCHOOL
El Cerrito, California
A new high school campus, constructed on the site of an old high school being demolished, consisting of six large buildings enclosing a total area of 192,000sf. A large cornerstone building houses administration, a performing arts theater and a library. The academic and science classrooms are housed in three three-story structures. Another large building houses the large and small gymnasiums with adjacent ancillary spaces including dance rooms and weightlifting/wrestling, lockers and dressing rooms and a concession facility; other enclosed space houses a cafeteria and sitting area for food consumption. All buildings are steel framed with stucco, CMU veneer and glazed exterior skin. The structures are situated into the hillside site with one-story tall building and site retaining walls, steps, terraces and landscaping.

EVERGREEN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL
San Jose, California
This high school incorporates two 2-story classroom buildings, a media center and library, a theater, and an athletic facility, plus administration and dining commons. All structures are framed in structural steel. Due to its proximity to the Hayward Fault, this campus has been designed to incorporate "near-field" seismic effects.

DON CALLEJON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Santa Clara Unified School District
Santa Clara, California
This elementary school campus includes two classroom buildings (12,300 gsf each), a two-story administration/classroom building (33,000 gsf) and a media center (4900 gsf) with connecting covered walks. Also included is a gymnasium/multi-purpose building (12,300 gsf). The structures consist of wood/steel hybrid construction, with plywood shear walls, steel braced frames and special moment resisting steel frames. The two-story administration/classroom building has a clerestory between the pitched roofs to bring daylight to interior spaces. The lobby entrance features a two story open space with a circular stair.

This project involves four components: A new 35,000gsf, two-story steel frame building housing classrooms, offices, and a 15,000gsf hi-tech library; HVAC upgrade plus functional remodel to two science buildings; HVAC upgrade and functional remodel plus 1,200gsf expansion to Arts Building; 8,000gsf addition plus seismic retrofit of existing building to house administration functions.

New high school campus consisting of eight major steel-framed buildings including an administration/media center, two 2-story classroom wings, and individual buildings for performing arts, technology, fine arts, and a multipurpose/cafeteria facility, as well as locker/shower and gymnasium/wrestling buildings.

WILCOX HIGH SCHOOL
Science and Performing Arts Centers
Santa Clara, California
Campus expansion includes a new 25,000 sf science center and a new 18,000 sf performing arts facility. The science building is a single-story wood and steel hybrid structure that includes science and computer lab classrooms, large lecture hall and administration offices. Notable building features include tall clerestory spaces and exposed curved steel canopies. The performing arts building is a steel, concrete and masonry structure with a 325-seat theater, full fly gallery, scene shop, rehearsal area, offices and storage.

A new high school campus consisting of 14 buildings enclosing a total area of 270,000 sf, including an academic and science classroom building; a gymnasium with adjacent ancillary buildings including dressing rooms and a concession facility; other one-story buildings (some with multilevel and barrel vaulted roofs), house the Cafeteria, Multipurpose Room, Administration, Media Center, Performing Arts, Home Economics, and Industrial Arts. The Gymnasium barrel vaulted roof features custom designed long span steel tri-chord trusses.

CHRISTOPHER HIGH SCHOOL
Gilroy, California
Christopher High School is a sustainable school featuring state-of-the art learning spaces. Phase I of the new 161,723sf campus includes four buildings housing:
  • Administration, Counseling, Faculty and Support Spaces
  • Classrooms – Science, Industrial Technology, Music and Agriculture Education
  • Two Gymnasiums, Physical Education Rooms, and Locker Rooms
  • Kitchen and Dining Hall
  • Black Box Theater
  • Community Aquatic Center
Due to the growing needs of the town of Gilroy, the campus has been designed as a civic center to help foster community pride. To provide the greatest level of security for the students and staff, the one and two story structures are organized around a central triangular courtyard that serves as the social heart of the school. The energy-conscious design optimizes the use of daylight, natural ventilation, and solar arrays to promote a healthy learning environment. High quality materials, such as natural, stone reflect the timeless architecture reminiscent of the original Gilroy High School.

The structures are steel braced frames clad with precast concrete panels. Long span bowstring trusses form the gymnasium roof. The foundation consists of conventional spread footings with slabs on grade.

APTOS HIGH SCHOOL
Performing Arts Center & Gymnasium
Aptos, California
500-seat Performing Arts Center with full stage fly and rigging system, plus music rooms, back-of-house, scene yard, and “black box” spaces. Central lobby connects to adjacent 14,000sf gymnasium with bleacher seating for 1200. Adjacent spaces include a wrestling room, locker rooms, and coaches offices. Structure is a braced steel frame with 120 foot long span steel trusses at the gymnasium.

A new two-story, 74,000sf replacement building for Downer Elementary School. Functions include classrooms, administration, library, computer center, cafeteria, kitchen, and gymnasium. The building is a wood frame, plywood shear wall structure with architecturally exposed glulam beams featured in large open spaces.
