Emeryville, California
This two-story, 15,000 sf building with administrative offices and multipurpose areas features an innovative lateral-force-resisting system that reconciles the aesthetic requirements of an exposed structure with special concentrically braced frame design and detailing procedures for ductile seismic response. The project included a seismic upgrade of the adjacent historic three-story, 7,500 gsf City Hall utilizing center coring to strengthen the unreinforced masonry walls.

Redwood City, California
This 41,000 gsf city hall with wood/steel hybrid structure, features include a large curved high ceiling concourse, dramatic high vaulted council chambers interconnected with two-story staff offices via interior pedestrian bridges, and a curving entry arcade.

SAN MATEO COUNTY OFFICE BUILDING
Redwood City, California
A five-story, 110,000 gsf office building over 31,000 gsf of sub-basement parking. The structural system is a steel-braced frame on a pile foundation. The exterior cladding is a precast concrete and aluminum curtain wall system. A pedestrian tunnel connects the new building to an existing county office building.

Danville, California
A 16,800 gsf wood-framed library structure with high bay spaces and open stack areas, plus a 6,800 gsf wood frame community center.

GEORGE M. SILLIMAN COMMUNITY ACTIVITY AND SWIM CENTER
Newark, California
A three-building facility consisting of one 12,000 gsf gymnasium, a 25,000 gsf activity center with housing centers for child care, community activities and teens, plus support and administrative space. The 32'-high gymnasium is tilt-up construction, with a hip roof broken up by a series of dormers on all sides. The open roof structure features 10' deep steel trusses spanning 105 ft. The activity center is a single-story steel-framed structure, with hip and gable roofs broken up by a series of dormers. The aquatic center is an open steel trussed building with trusses spanning 120 ft.

Saratoga, California
Seismic retrofit and renovations to an existing 18,000 gsf library plus additions, creating a new 50,000 gsf public library. The building is a single-story wood-framed structure with vaulted ceilings and structural elements exposed as part of the architecture.

A 25,000 gsf emergency operations center including sheriff and communications functions. Building was designed to meet Essential Facilities seismic criteria and remain operational after a major earthquake.

A 39,000 gsf two-story family courts building in Contra Costa County housing six courtrooms, chambers, judicial support staff and administrative support functions. The structure consists of a steel frame, composite concrete floor and concrete masonry shear walls.

Morgan Hill, California
A two-story 61,000 gsf building which functions as a full service Superior Courts facility with six courtrooms, court clerk's offices, jury deliberation and assembly spaces, probation department, administration and secure day holding. The structure is a steel frame with composite concrete floors and steel braced frames on a spread footing foundation.

NAPA COUNTY JUVENILE JUSTICE CENTER
Napa, California
A 41,550 gsf two-story steel, concrete and reinforced masonry structure plus renovation and seismic retrofit of 4,000 gsf of existing administrative space. The new building includes two housing pods, administration, intake center, commercial kitchen and other support spaces, meeting rooms and a wall recreation yard.

HALL OF JUSTICE EXPANSION
City and County of San Francisco
San Francisco, California
One ten-story and one six-story tower on a concrete podium utilizing concrete shear wall and steel braced frame systems on a pile foundation respectively. Structural features include curved shear walls and large circular atria through concrete flat slabs, ramps, a pedestrian bridge, and basement walls resisting hydrostatic pressures. Buildings include prison housing, industries, offices, medical clinic, police functions and garage.

SAN MATEO COUNTY YOUTH SERVICES CENTER
San Mateo, California
A new 300,000 gsf multi-building sustainable design juvenile justice campus which includes a 240-bed secure residential facility, food service, health services, education, girls camp, administration, juvenile courts and probation, and community school/day reporting component. The site is less than 1.0 km from the San Andreas Fault. Completed in 2006, this is the first LEED certified juvenile justice campus in the country.

A 65,000 gsf two-story building to house the Sheriff's Administrative and Law Enforcement Divisions. The structure consists of a steel frame and concrete masonry walls supported on a pile foundation. Functions included are dispatch center, evidence collection and storage, offices, locker rooms, briefing room and community meeting room.
